Caring, compassionate, and committed to you. That is the mantra that I aim to live up to each and every day as a candidate for the Leon County Commission. Because of this, I wear my work ethic and commitment to our community on my sleeve. My name is Jeff Hendry, and I believe that Leon County can become a more safe and prosperous community by prioritizing economic opportunity for all our citizens. I want to be your next Leon County Commissioner and over the course of my campaign, I hope that I can earn your support.
My decision to run for public office comes after personally canvassing more than 100 trusted friends, family members, and community leaders throughout Leon County. I received strong encouragement from many of the individuals canvassed, and after much personal reflection decided that now is the time for me to serve my community.
My genuine commitment to you is that I will be a Commissioner that works tirelessly to represent the best interests of all our citizens. I want to build meaningful and trusted relationships across all segments of Leon County as a means creating a more prosperous and safe community. I believe my professional work experiences and personal background enable me to fulfill this commitment.
For the past 32 years, I have worked for the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government (IOG) rising from a graduate research assistant in the late 1980s to being named Executive Director in 2003. I believe the practical experiences and diversity of projects over the past 30 plus years—almost all of which have focused on local governments, the communities they serve, and economic development–have prepared me well to not only serve as your Commissioner but also provide vision and leadership for our Community.
I am the proud son of a local electrician and a Leon County School teacher of over 30 years. The compassionate but tough love instilled by my parents helped me to develop a set of core values that will drive me every day as a Commissioner. Chief among those are unconditional integrity, a relentless work ethic, and a strong desire to see my community succeed.
Our family came from humble beginnings – I was raised in a trailer park on the west side of Tallahassee and thanks to the hard work and love of my parents we were able to move into a single-family home neighborhood that became the bedrock of my upbringing. I attended Leon County public schools and ultimately graduated from Godby High School. I was blessed to attend and play college baseball at Chipola Junior College and Florida Atlantic University where I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. All of which was possible because of the belief my parents placed in my brother and I.
I have been married to my wonderful wife Tim for 22 years and we have two amazing children-Danielle and Josh who both graduated from Lincoln High School in 2016 and 2018, respectively. There are many reasons I am running for office, but above all I want to help give my family, friends, and neighbors a better community to live in. I learned that from my mom and dad and it still drives me today.
I would be honored to be your next Leon County Commissioner and I know that with your help and support we can win this election!
